What is PHP?

PHP is a server side programming language.

Simple enough to work with and advanced enough to be a huge improvement over plain html.PHP is used along with html to provide a means for dynamic content, which html can't do on it's own.

When combined with MySQL (database) PHP can be a very simple, powerful language to create a website with.

PHP is free software that is installed on a webserver and accessed by a opening any PHP file with the extension file.php Many web hosting companies install PHP for the users to access.

Many web hosting companies also install a copy of MySQL for you to access as well.

PHP is relatively simple to work with, and very powerful. When compared with Perl, PHP is a dream come true for simplicity and functioning.

 
As opposed to ASP, PHP needs no special software to program with. ASP is the Microsoft product, which will assure that there are upgrades to buy (they will see to it).

PHP is open source free software with more than three million websites using it. Upgrades are performed for you by others.

The bottom line is we chose PHP because it is relatively easy to learn and modify.

It has a large open source following, which means people are constantly improving on it for you.

It is FREE! this cuts overhead and eliminates forced upgrades. There is no software company with a vested interest in you buying upgrades.

Because it is open source, PHP will keep moving forward, and being improved upon.

There are many pre-written PHP scripts. Many free some for a nominal charge. These cover the basic functioning needed for almost any application.

Offers quicker and cheaper deployment and troubleshooting when starting with pre-written scripts.
